Impressions & History

Queen, reef and fire barque

On 28 October 1832, the Danish Queen Marie Sophie Friederike inaugurated Fehmarn's first lighthouse. The 100-foot-high lighthouse was built by the Danish naval administration, as Fehmarn was Danish at the time. As it was the Queen's birthday, the lighthouse was given the name "Marienleuchte".

The lighthouse replaced a fire barque, which had previously made it easier for ships to navigate through the Fehmarnbelt, which was only 19 kilometres wide. Sandbanks, reefs and currents often made the strait between Fehmarn and the Danish island of Lolland a dangerous adventure back then.

Today, the old Danish lighthouse has long since been decommissioned, but the small village of Marienleuchte still bears its name.

The royal Danish coat of arms on the south side of the old listed lighthouse building is a reminder of its origins to this day. Together with the old beacon, it lends the modern holiday property project BeltBlick FEHMARN a touch of historical charm.

A place with history

Fehmarn was called Femern in Danish. Today, the island is still a popular holiday and shopping destination for Scandinavians. Events such as the Fehmarn Days of American Bikes or the annual Fehmarn Marathon attract many visitors from Denmark.

Fehmarn for insiders

Everything that comes from the island is not called fehmarnsche but fehmaraner. Of course, this also applies to the inhabitants as well as to all export hits such as rape cushions, sea buckthorn jam and nut cake.

Sweet delicacy

The national pastry of Fehmarn is the "Kröpel". The small, sweet yeast dough balls were once only eaten during the grain harvest. They were a popular refreshment after hard labour in the fields. Today they are available all year round in many farm cafés.

Fehmarn

Pure Baltic Sea idyll

Fehmarn is not only Schleswig-Holstein's only Baltic Sea island, but with around 2,000 hours of sunshine per year, it is also a real place in the sun. Marienleuchte is located in the north-east of the island, south-east of the well-known ferry port of Puttgarden and right by the sea. The small village offers plenty of peace and quiet, the sound of the sea and a beautiful natural steep bank. Just 100 metres from the new BeltBlick FEHMARN, you will find the unspoilt beach and a seemingly endless view across the Baltic Sea to Denmark. From Marienleuchte, everything that is particularly beautiful on Fehmarn is close at hand.

Surf and kite paradise

Fehmarn is home to some of the best surf and wave spots in Germany. Kiters and surfers find excellent conditions all year round and in summer the world's elite meet on the south beach for major surf festivals.

Nature like sand by the sea

Kilometres of beaches, wildly romantic cliffs, yellow rapeseed fields and the glistening Baltic Sea - Fehmarn has four nature reserves, 78 kilometres of coastline and is an important resting place for millions of migratory birds. On foot or by bike, the whole island becomes a natural spectacle.

Bulli parade and farm café

Whether it's the Midsummer Bulli Festival, rape blossom festival, kite festival or New Year's Eve party on the beach - numerous events on Fehmarn ensure there is never a dull moment. The many restaurants, farm cafés and beach bars are also a delight.

Micro location

Just 100 metres from the beach and very close to the sky

The BeltBlick FEHMARN project is picturesquely situated between the historic lighthouse and the new Marienleuchte lighthouse just a few metres from the Baltic Sea beach on the Fehmarnbelt.

From your new holiday flat, you and your holiday guests can easily walk to the beach right on your doorstep. Watch from your terrace and balcony as the large ferries sail from the neighbouring ferry port of Puttgarden towards Denmark or simply gaze for hours at the Baltic Sea in the Fehmarnbelt. We promise you: the light, the clouds and the sea will fascinate you anew every time.

Trip to Denmark

The new fixed link across the Fehmarnbelt will be the longest immersed tunnel in the world. In future, the journey time between Puttgarden and Rødbyhavn will only take seven minutes by train and ten minutes by car. This means you will be in the centre of Copenhagen in just one hour from Fehmarn.

Marienleuchte

Unique location with direct access to the sea

Marienleuchte is the most north-easterly point in Schleswig-Holstein. In Marienleuchte, everything that makes the Baltic Sea so great can be found in a small area: salty sea air, the scent of marram grass and dog roses, the symphony of wind and waves and the feeling of boundless space.

The small village of Marienleuchte is ideal for anyone looking for peace and nature. The holiday homes and detached houses are nestled along the coast and even in the high season, the pace here is relaxing. If you fancy a little more hustle and bustle in between - the pretty island capital of Burg with its red brick houses, many restaurants, cafés and shops is just 14 minutes away by car.
