Macro location Baltic Sea
Kellenhusen is located between Grömitz and the Dahm Reef. The former fishing village with its small streets and old thatched houses borders the huge Kellenhusen Forest on the land side. On the seaside, visitors can enjoy the two kilometre long and up to 50 m wide Baltic Sea beach.
The smallest seaside resort in the Bay of Lübeck can be reached quickly and easily by car and train. From Hamburg, it takes about 70 minutes by car via the A1 motorway Lübeck-Puttgarden to Kellenhusen. By train it takes about 2.5 hours via the railway stations Neustadt in Holstein, Lensahn or Oldenburg in Holstein and onwards by bus. From Lübeck, the journey by car only takes about 40 minutes.
Many consider the 305 metre long pier with its large metal arches to be the most beautiful in the Baltic Sea. Three side platforms, hammocks and several levels provide variety. Ships stop at the bridgehead and you can even sail into the harbour of marriage.
Longboards, electro-balance boards or disc golf - Kellenhusen is one of the top addresses for trend sports. It has its own sports beach with a large selection of free sports courses and ideal conditions for everything from surfing to cycling.
At 600 hectares, Kellenhusen Forest is the largest contiguous forest area on the Baltic Sea. Two ancient giant trees are impressive contemporary witnesses: the five-mark oak is 350 years old and the water level oak is a reminder of the storm surge of 1872.
Micro location Kellenhusen
Kellenhusen is one of the most popular holiday resorts on the Bay of Lübeck and has retained a pleasantly down-to-earth and warm atmosphere to this day. Families love the seaside resort especially for its fine sandy beach with gently sloping sea. Numerous events such as the Pirate Week, open-air concerts or the pier in the sea of lights ensure unforgettable holidays for holidaymakers of all ages.
Your new holiday flat is just a three-minute walk from the beach and the promenade with its pier. You will find everything you need for everyday life in the many small alleyways around Seestraße. The beautiful spa gardens are also just around the corner.
Fishing village with history
Kellenhusen's history has always been closely linked to the Baltic Sea. In 1872, there was a devastating storm surge in the Bay of Lübeck. The Klostersee lowlands were completely flooded and several houses in Kellenhusen were swept away by the tide. During the subsequent dyke construction, many construction experts came to the region. Their families and friends became the first holiday guests in the seaside resort.
Until 1911, the Baltic seaside resort was only accessible by steamship from Kiel, Lübeck and Fehmarn and by railway via Lensahn. Even then, there was a 420 metre long pier where the steamers docked. Thanks to its special location with healthy forest and sea air, the Baltic seaside resort of Kellenhusen has always been a popular holiday destination for the health-conscious.
The approximately 3.5 km long promenade meanders along the beach, with boulders, watercourses, fountains, playgrounds, quiet zones, viewing towers and countless restaurants, cafés and shops.
Kellenhusen Forest is home to many animals such as wild boar and bats. From April to October, there is also a weekly wildlife feeding programme. A nocturnal bat tour with BUND is an unforgettable nature experience.
The area between Kellenhusen and Grömitz was once a fjord. Today, a wonderful cycle path leads across the dyked area. At the end, a secluded natural beach and the organic farm shop and café at the Klostersee farm beckon.
